The 6 Week Starter is a complementary series of appointments with you and a YMCA Fitness Coach. We will help establish your personal wellness goals, counsel on your nutritional habits, and coach you through the strength equipment. Y Weight Loss Program with FitKick Technology

Our YMCA Weight Loss program is a weekly, ongoing program designed to assist Y members and non-members in achieving their weight loss goals. Each weekly educational session is led by our trained and certified weight loss program facilitators and explores everyday topics in a small group setting that are essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. All materials are provided.

Facility member: $115 initial payment then $40 per month starting the 3rd month.
General public: $203 initial payment (includes 2 mo. Facility membership) then $40 per month on the 3rd month plus the facility membership rate.

Diabetes prevention

A 12 Month program

The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program helps adults at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles by eating healthier, increasing physical activity and losing a modest amount of weight in order to reduce their chances of developing the disease.

Research by the National Institutes of Health has shown that programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can reduce the number of new cases of type 2 diabetes by 58% and 71% in adults over age 60.

About the Program
In a classroom setting, a trained lifestyle coach will facilitate a small group of participants in learning about healthier eating, physical activity and other behavior changes over 25 sessions. The year-long program consists of 16 weekly sessions and three sessions every other week during the first six months followed by 6 monthly sessions.

Program Goals:
• Reduce 5-7% body weight
• Increase physical activity to150 minutes per week

Who can participate?
Participants who qualify for the program must be at least 18 years old, overweight (BMI > 25) and at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes indicated by a confirmatory blood value† or a clinical diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes (GDM) during previous pregnancy. If a blood value or diagnosis is not available, a qualifying risk score may be used to enroll.

Program Curriculum
Participants will receive a notebook which contains worksheets and handouts for them to use in each of the sessions of the lifestyle intervention. Participants will also receive a weekly journal and be asked to track their food and physical activity during the program.

The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program curriculum is a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-approved curriculum in CDC’s Diabetes Prevention Recognition Program.

Increase your explosive power, agility, lateral acceleration and decrease your injury risk with our safe jump training system. Our VERTIMAX technology is a sophisticated jump training platform with bands that attach to various points to the body for resistance. Using movement’s specific in sport, these bands of resistance help influence total body power and acceleration for athletes. But that’s not all, participants will learn strength and conditioning exercises included post Vertimax. Available in Torrington only. Ages 11-18.


Members will utilize both offensive and defensive skills to piece together complex combinations of punches with extra emphasis placed on proper form and technique. Workouts will gradually become more and more complicated as the session continues. Both upper body and cardiovascular endurance will be pushed to their limits with this intense and fast-paced program. Meets once per week. 60 minutes.


Members will be required to wear an AquaJogging belt around the waist and will perform multiple exercises in the deeper end of our pool. Members will use aqua hand weights as well in a circuit training fashion of multiple movements’ requiring total body muscles to get a great low intensity workout.


Members will be instructed on multiple cardio machines and equipment to create the perfect circuit for calories to burn! Bodyweight exercises will be used the strengthen the core, lower and upper muscles for a efficient workout. Meets in the cardio room.

Free Walking Group with
flexibility training

Don't let anything slow you down! Free to members, staff will lead participants on a walking and flexibility program inside the Torrington and Winsted gymnasiums. Participants will meet once per week starting in December. Small groups consistent of 2-3 people will burn calories in 60 minute sessions coached by a Certified Personal Trainer at the Y. Exercise with a friend or be paired with a new friend, regardless, the small group training is cost effective option for those looking to look great using equipment like kettlebells, outdoors running, sandbags and battling ropes. Ages 13 to 18 Years. This active and informational 8 week program helps our younger members lead a healthy lifestyle. Throughout the course, all aspects of wellness are coached, including: muscular strength, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance and nutrition. Weekly healthy challenges are integrated to provide motivation! Upon completion of the program, participants will be quizzed on the knowledge they have learned over the 8 weeks.

Perfect for Everybody and every body! Each class is designed to bring people together to sweat it on. We take the "work" out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. A total workout, combining all elements of fitness - cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class.
Winsted Torrington

Bring your family along for a great dance class to Latin music! Children aged 5 and up.

Traditional kickboxing moves, combined with added high energy cardio bouts including jumping jacks, side shuffles and jump squats. Muscular conditioning including stationary squats, lunges, push ups/planks and various ab work. Open to all levels and easily modified to meet individual needs.

A high-intensity timed-interval class, using Tabata protocol (20 seconds on, 10 seconds off, 8 reps) to achieve maximum calorie burn and increase overall cardiovascular strength.

A combination of functional strength-training and basic cardiovascular moves creating the ultimate calorie-burning work out.

Challenge your core strength and inner balance with this advanced exercise ball routine while getting a full body and intense abdominal workout.

Shape and define your body while promoting healthy bones. After warming up; increase strength and muscular endurance during this anaerobic workout using weights, stability balls, and your own body weight as a form of resistance.

Looking to refine and define? This moderate intensity class uses a variety of equipment as well as you own body weight to challenge every participant. No class will ever be duplicated!
Torrington /Winsted

A moderate intensity weight workout set to music to develop muscular endurance. This class incorporates weighted barbells and dumbbells for a full body routine you could have a blast doing!
Torrington /Canaan

Firm those arms! Tighten that midsection! These classes are an excellent way to kick start your fitness goals with the usage of many pieces of equipment. A moderate intensity training regime perfect for any-body!

A high intensity interval training class and a great word for the torching of calories. Not for the faint of heart! Combining cardio and weight training will help blast body fat and strengthen muscles. Be prepared to sweat!

The silver sneaker classes are specifically designed to strengthen muscles, increase range of movement and improve flexibility needed for daily activities. This low intensity class uses a chair for seated exercises and for standing support.

Enhance you balance and core! Use bodyweight movements to strengthen your abdominals, back and hips and improve your flexibility. This low to moderate workout gradually progresses the exercise intensity to ensure you comfort and safety in the class.
Torrington | Canaan

These classes cover Vinyasa flows, basic yoga poses, twists and stretching. Also, a portion of the class is devoted to core strength (repetition of movement of Pilates poses). Bring a towel!

Coordinate breathing with basic flexibility movements and decrease your stress! A low to moderate intensity class great for beginners and intermediate participants who look for a challenge! Restorative yoga participants are asked to please bring a towel.
Winsted / Canaan / Torrington

This form of Yoga uses inner focus, meditation, standard yoga poses, breath work, "development of a quiet mind", and relaxation. Elongate those stress and tired muscles and improve your mobility through the joints with this beginner to intermediate level class.

Build strength and stamina by performing yoga push ups (high plank, low plank, up dog) several or more times consecutively. Between the vinyasa flows, other yoga poses are held between 30-60 seconds. Classes vary each week focusing on different body areas. Verbal instructions will guide you through poses and will offer you suggestions for keeping your practice gentle or bringing it to an intermediate level.

Looking for a great workout in less time? Jump in our new Fit in 40 class! Exercises involved will challenge every muscle group and will never be duplicated. Only 40 minutes to a better looking and feeling body. Members use dumbbells, stability balls, barbells, you name it, it's there in this moderate to high intensity class.

Try this 30 minute midsection busting, love handle erasing ab class! participants learn effective core strength and abdominal exercises. Movements may be modified for all levels of intensities.
