Winchester Emergency Shelter

The Winsted YMCA branch operates a 16-bed Emergency Shelter, which provides emergency housing to individuals and families experiencing homelessness in the cities and towns of Litchfield County and Greater Waterbury. In 2018, 43 adults and children were guests of the shelter, and laid their heads down for a safe and comfortable night’s sleep a total of 4,739 times.

Through one-on-one case management we work with guests to improve their health, financial stability and outlook on life so that their homelessness can be a brief and one-time experience.

If you or someone you know is facing a housing crisis please contact 2-1-1 in order to access ours and other shelter resources across the state.
