CEO Announcement

CEO Greg Brisco to Retire

Dear Y Family,

First off, I’d like to thank you for your membership with the Y. It’s our daily goal to help you in your journey to develop and maintain health in spirit, mind and body. And there’s nothing that makes us feel better than to see you succeed.

I write to you to share that I am announcing my retirement from the YMCA after 42 years, 21+ of which have been here in Northwest CT. My last day will be March 31, 2025.

It’s been an honor and my life’s passion to serve Northwest Connecticut alongside our amazing staff and volunteers. They amaze me daily with their caring for our members and kids. I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together, and I am confident that the Y will continue to thrive in the years to come.

We are truly lucky that we are able to touch so many lives in so many different ways.

  • Three YMCA locations- Torrington, Winsted & Canaan with 4,500 members
  • Four summer camps including newly purchased Camp MOE with enrollment of 500 youth
  • Childcare programs serving 180 children from infants to school age
  • Torrington & Winchester Youth Service Bureaus reaching over 3,700 youth
  • 16 Bed year-round homeless shelter in Winsted
  • Low-income housing- 42 units in Torrington, 15 units in Winsted
  • 28 bed Cold weather overflow shelter @ Trinity Church which served 116
  • Springfield College scholarship- 32 students over 22 years with $204K awarded
  • Torrington Trails Network- building walking & hiking trails
  • 7 event Grand Prix Race Series
  • Co-founded Fit Together NWCT- a coalition building healthy kids & healthy community.

The Y Board of Directors has initiated a nationwide search for a new Chief Executive Officer in partnership with the YMCA of the USA National Resource Office and the Connecticut/ Rhode Island Alliance of YMCAs. The ideal candidate will be a passionate leader with a proven track record of success.

The Y is greatly positioned for growth with a Torrington childcare renovation in progress, Ninja programs continuing to grow in popularity, post Covid membership growth, growth in pickleball, a new camp property (new sports field just completed & kitchen hood installed- ready for party rentals) and railroad square sports complex just behind the Torrington Y in design phase. This is an exciting list!

Thank you again for your support of the YMCA. I wish you good health and happiness.

God Bless.

-Greg
